Rained out, again!!! Nearly finished with the planting but was interrupted by a brief downpour earlier today. We now have 110 acres of soybeans to plant and then, barring any replant issues, we’re finished!!! It’s been a trying year, to say the least, but it always seems to work out in the end. Corn planting began on April 18th and was completed on May 15th, all-in-all not too bad with only 84 acres planted in May the vast majority of corn was planted in April – which is pretty good, all things considered.
My friend Bill Poss was the opening act for The Little River Band at Effingham Performance Center a couple of weeks ago. I was unable to make the show but I’m certain he did his usual terrific job – congratulations, Bill!!
We lost Guy Clark recently. It just doesn’t seem to end with losing music icons this year. I have a couple of friends who cover his songs occasionally, Kelly Stanfield (Dublin Blues), and Richard Rudy (The Cape), they do them great justice and I look forward to hearing them again soon. Once the crop is planted and life resumes again for me.
My friend Elaine Feezel has a couple of gigs coming up at the 18th Street Farmers Market in Charleston, Illinois this summer (she has a lot more than that, I’m sure – they are the ones I know about). The farmers market runs every Saturday morning all summer and they can be found on Facebook. If you’ve never heard Elaine before you should treat yourself. Her beautiful, soulful, voice will make you melt – she is an amazing singer/songwriter – but don’t take my word for it, make it a point to see for yourself!!! Elaine also plays in a duo called Backroom Spirits with Jim Stewart (amazing, amazing, guitarist) so watch for them, as well.
